Garbage Kills Bears!

Follow these steps to help keep the Wildernest community and wildlife safe!

1. Verify Dumpster Security: Please Conduct a comprehensive assessment of all dumpsters within your property or area of responsibility. Ensure that they are adequately secured and meet the necessary standards for bear-proof storage. If repairs or enhancements are needed, please take prompt action to rectify any security concerns. Make sure dumpsters are latched and secured at all times!

These interactions pose a significant threat to community members and the bears themselves. It is our responsibility to take proactive measures to maintain a coexistence with these magnificent creatures.

2. Spread Awareness: Communicate the importance of bear-proof dumpster security to your neighbors, tenants, employees and especially short term renters! Encourage them to be vigilant in properly securing dumpsters and disposing of waste responsibly. Collectively, we can create a heightened awareness that fosters a culture of responsible waste management.

3. Report Trash Incidents: If you witness any aggressive bear activity or any trash strewn about within the district, please report them immediately to the BMMD Office or call at 970-513-1300. Timely information allows the district to assess the situation and implement appropriate measures to protect both human safety and the well-being of the bears.

BMMD Rules Regarding Trash Pickup

All trash containers shall be placed outside enclosed structures only on the appointed day for trash pickup, and shall be returned to enclosures no later than 24 hours after pickup. Two or more covenant violations will result in a requirement to bear-proof.

All trash must be put inside the containers! If the trash is full please keep the thrash inside your residence until the day of pickup. Do not leave the dumpster lid propped open at all!

Please see our rules and regulations link below for any other questions regarding protective covenants in the district including Noxious Weeds.
