With Coloradans set to see surging property taxes in 2024, governor pushes local entities to provide relief | SummitDaily.com

BMMD is listening to Governor Polis and our residents.  No one likes the prospect of rising taxes.  Our organization does its best to serve the needs of our community in the most cost-effective manner possible.

We have recently completed an intensive yearlong capital needs study to ensure we can meet your expectations for service today and long into the future.  This also means that water and sewer rates will inevitably go up in communities with over fifty-year-old infrastructure.  But that doesn't mean we increase our rates in a blind manner that ignores the amount of revenue which is needed to maintain quality service and maintain our infrastructure.

With that in mind, the Board of Directors has voted to temporarily lower our current mill levy by 20%.  This will supply some relief from the surge in property values we have all experienced.  After reviewing our revenue needs for the coming year, we can do this without impacting service levels for 2024.  This temporary reduction will be reviewed during the budgeting process each year.  According to state law SB23-108 it may be lowered further, kept at the same rate, or increased back to the authorized 15 mills.

The district is committed to providing outstanding service to our members in the most cost-efficient manner possible.  After all, we all want to live in a community with an excellent reputation for being a great place to call home.
